Services Overview

We provide Information Technology services scaled to meet the specific needs of individual clients.

Because our goal is to maximize uptime for our client base, service provision at Tech Now is always as fast and thorough as we can manage. We maintain multiple service bays in our workshop to allow us to work on more than one system simultaneously, whether it's troubleshooting or data recovery or custom builds. Most calls are handled the same day that we receive them, but we also schedule ahead when a client requests it.

We use all kinds of tools to help keep our clients fully functional, including remote desktop software which gives us the ability to take a look at a client system that's connected to the internet without leaving our store. Many client calls are handled this way, which saves our clients time and money since it avoids the necessity of getting someone over to their location (or getting their hardware to our storefront) and it allows us to bill at our In Store rather than On Site rate (time of day and holiday modifiers still apply with remote support).

For our on-site clients' convenience, invoicing is done either via hardcopy by mail or PDF document by email. In-store services are invoiced by hardcopy and payment is expected in full when equipment is picked up. Payments are accepted by check and credit card - we do accept cash payments, but we expect our clients to deliver exact change (we will not keep cash around our store for making change).

Troubleshooting

We offer computer support and repair services.

Troubleshooting and repair are our most common services. This includes simple virus and malware removal, data transfer and recovery, system performance enhancements, and defect discovery and repair or replacement in both hardware and software.

Troubleshooting is billed hourly except where the client has a term service agreement with us.

Consultation

When asked a question, we'll answer it to the best of our ability.

Most often, clients will want to know what options are available to accomplish something and what overhead (both in terms of cost and in terms of user requirements) is involved. Sometimes an answer is quick and easy, but usually the options are many and the overhead is difficult to summarize.

When a client needs information that may not be easily understood during a quick conversation, we produce white paper to lay out the questions or goals, define any terms that may not be familiar to the average reader, and then enumerate and discuss what's available including pros and cons.

When possible we'll include recommendations, but sometimes any one of the available options may serve a client's needs and the best recommendation we can make is to discuss wants and needs internally and decide what it's worth to meet them.

Consultation including research and writing is billed hourly except where the client has a term service agreement with us.

Hosting

We provide fully managed and maintained hosting services for web-based services like websites and email, whether you have your own domain or you just want a presence using a subsection of one of our domains.

Fully managed and maintained says an awful lot more than it looks like. Foremost, we maintain our own servers and dedicated, high-bandwidth internet pipes and we do it locally.

On top of that we'll handle:
* Your domain registration and renewal
* Your domain's DNS
* Load balancing
* Frequent checkups to make sure all your webpages and services are functional
* Periodic checkups to make sure your site(s) and services are performing well - yes, we actually check out your site's availability and performance using online site testing services located around the world.

Hosting is billed at a flat rate per year and website or webservice development is not included. Refunds are never available in the event of cancellation.

Development

We develop software to custom specifications.

Things like network communications have published standards, and are provided with most computer operating systems (in fact a lot of cell phones these days, too!). Things like bookkeeping and word processing and tax calculating can be done with any one of several dozen products that have been built over the years, and can be bought off the shelf at any office supply store.

Where Tech Now comes in is the point where what you do in your business is unique and the stuff they dreamed up decades ago and have been building on and perfecting ever since just won't do the job. Things like a handy application to quickly search through the business documents you create with MS Word and store in your own homebrewed filing system on disk. Things like wiring MS Excel spreadsheets to autocalculate the materials you expect to use in projects you do a lot of. Things like tying those MS Excel spreadsheets into MS Word through addins and extensions so you can automatically generate reports and projections in Word from data entered into (and calculated in) Excel.

We also develop services for the web using server-side technologies like ASP.NET and PHP, client-side technologies like HTML and CSS and Javascript, and database technologies like MS SQL, MySQL, SQLite, and Access.

Development services are billed hourly except where the client provides a detailed specification, in which case we can usually provide a flat rate per project. In both cases, we require some prepaid retainer on file to begin any development project.
